When the man appeared at the Stamford site, the trap shut on him as officers arrested him on charges of fourth-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor and public indecency, police said.
Humberto Garcia, 31, of Orland Street, Bridgeport, approached 14-year-old girl at a bus stop at Ursula Place and Orange Street on Oct. 27 at about 6:45 a.m. exposed himself and then touched her before fleeing, police said.
He fled in the direction of East Main Street when she pulled out her phone to call 911, police said.
Mike Wagner, a Stamford police officer and an accomplished artist, created an image of the man based on the teen's description. Within days of releasing the image to the public, police received a tip about the suspect. The teen was also able to identify the suspect from a photo lineup that included a mugshot of Garcia from a 2012 public indecency arrest in Stamford.
Lt. Tom Barcello said police are concerned that the suspect appears to have escalated his behavior. He was convicted in 2013 for public indecency in Stamford and given a suspended six-month sentence.
"He is going from exposing himself to now touching someone," he said.
Garcia's bond was set at $150,000, and he's scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
