Bridgeport Man Busted With Stolen Gun, Pot In Stratford

STRATFORD, Conn. -- Stratford Police found a stolen handgun and marijuana on a Bridgeport man who injured an officer during his arrest Wednesday, according to police.

Karel Bynes, 40, of Bridgeport was arrested after was identified as a suspect in a possible assault, according to police. When he was approached by an officer, Bynes began to fight and a brief struggle ensued, police said. The officer suffered minor injuries as a result, police said.

Bynes was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a handgun that was stolen out of New Haven, as well as marijuana packaged for sale, police said. 

He was charged with fifth-degree larceny, two counts of criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a gun without a permit, interfering with an officer, assault on an officer, second-degree breach of peace, illegal possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, and possession with intent to sell.

He was held on a $200,000 bond. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
