The resident had placed the envelope containing the $377.49 check in her mailbox to mail to her employer for a health insurance-related payment, police said.
But Christopher Cyr of 2153 Main St. took the check and deposited it into a friend’s account at a Bank of America branch on Boston Avenue in Bridgeport, police said.
Cyr made periodic payments of $50 to $100 for use of the bank account, police said. In return, his friend provided him with his bank account number and PIN code, police said.
The resident reported the check was missing Jan. 16 after her employer never received the payment, police said.
Cyr was charged with sixth-degree larceny, sixth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny and second-degree forgery, police said.
Police said his bond was set at $5,000, and his court date is set for July 24.
