Heribeto Goriano, 42, was charged with criminal attempt to commit larceny in the sixth degree and conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree for a shoplifting of Tide and energy drinks at the Super Stop and Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff on Oct. 11.
According to the report, Goriano and a second male fled the store in a green Pontiac Grand Prix with $216 in items. The accomplice was identified by store security with a mug shot from Bridgeport police, but Fairfield was unable to charge Goriano at that time.
He was also charged with larceny in the fourth degree for the Oct. 8 theft of an Echo gas powered chainsaw valued at $299 from the Home Depot.
Loss prevention agents contacted police after a cashier alerted them to two Hispanic men walking out of the store with the chainsaw making no attempt to pay. The employees said that the two matched the descriptions of two men who were involved in an incident the previous day.
Goriano was arrested in Bridgeport and handed over to Fairfield Tuesday night on a warrant. He was held on a $10,000 bond for the charges stemming from Oct. 11 and a $25,000 bond for the charges stemming from Oct. 8. He was issued a court date of Jan. 16 for both charges.
Police say that Goriano has an extensive criminal history and was on parole at the time of arrest.
