Fairfield police officers found Vincent Givens, 50, of Clinton Avenue, walking east on Kings Highway near the Bridgeport and Fairfield border after a Walgreens employee called to report the incident, police said.
A Walgreens employee reported that an older black man had taken and concealed merchandise from the beverage refrigerator in the corner of the store, police said.
Officers did not know the specifics of the merchandise stolen but classified them as drinks and were able to provide only a value, police said.
The employee recognized the suspect from an incident reported Feb. 21 at the Walgreens in which the same man went behind the register to steal two cartons of Newport cigarettes worth a total of $161.20, police said. This incident is still under investigation by Fairfield police.
Givens was charged with sixth-degree larceny in the Sunday incident. He was released with a promise to appear in court on March 12.
