The witness told police a woman, later identified as Candice Peterkin, 20, of Gem Avenue, backed into a parked car at Fairfield University just before 11 a.m. on Dec. 23, police said.

She got out of the car, checked her car and told the witness she wasn’t hurt before leaving the scene without making an attempt to locate the car’s owner, police said.

The witness recorded Peterkin's license plate and police found her at her home. She was charged with evading responsibility and was released after posting a $50 bond.

She was scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 27.
