The crash happened when a car traveling west on Kings Highway Cutoff failed to stop for a red light at New England Avenue and hit a car going south, police said.
The southbound car spun into the eastbound lane of Kings Highway, hitting a third car that was stopped at the red light, police said. That car was propelled into the grass at the side of the road, according to police. The second car then rebounded off the third car and crossed the median into the westbound lane of traffic before stopping when it hit the stone wall at Ganim's Garden Center, police said.
Three passengers in the third car, including a newborn baby, a 5-year-old and a 46-year-old, had to be extricated and were taken to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment of injuries. The driver from the second car was also extricated and taken to the hospital.
The driver in the first car, Joseph Schnell Jr., 54, of Bridgeport, was not injured, police said. Schnell was issued an infraction ticket for failure to stop at a red light.
He told police that he was in a daze when he went through the light.
