The Norwalk Police received the complaint around 9 p.m. Wednesday about the smell of pot at the motel at 469 Westport Ave., said Norwalk Police Sgt. Sofia Gulino.

Officers assigned to the Narcotics Unit, as well as patrol officers, responded. Upon arrival, officers observed a male, later identified as Trevon Terry Coleman outside of the room in question, Gulino said.

When officers approached Coleman, 24, of Norwalk, the door to the room was ajar, and a strong odor of burnt marijuana was coming from the room, she said.

Coleman attempted to re-enter the room but was stopped by the officers. Once inside the room, officers noticed a large vacuum-sealed bag containing marijuana on the bed of the room. Coleman was detained while the other officers located additional vacuum sealed bags, cash, a digital scale, several cell phones, and small plastic baggies of various sizes, indicating narcotic sales activity, Gulino said.

The total weight of the marijuana seized was 3.55 pounds, police said.

Coleman was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell, operating a drug factory, possession with intent to sell one kilogram or more of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school, possession with intent to sell near a school.

He is being held on $100,000.
