Copper Pipes Stolen From Fairfield School

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A break-in at Giant Steps School in Southport led to the theft of copper pipes and an undetermined amount of damage to the building, according to police reports.

The property manager said the building had not been checked from Aug. 10-22. When he returned Wednesday, he reported copper pipes had been ripped from the walls throughout the building. In some cases, ceiling tiles, radiator covers and plumbing fixtures were torn down to get access to the pipes.

The total value of the thefts and the damage has not been determined at this time. Police still are investigating the case.

Similar thefts of copper have become common as the price of the metal has increased dramatically the past few years.
