The man said a person claiming to be his grandson called him Friday evening to say he had been arrested for manslaughter and needed the victim’s help.

The victim sent the scammer an $800 money gram and wired another $995 through Western Union, police said.

The victim said he had poor hearing and thought the caller sounded like his grandson.

Police are investigating.
