Jeffrey Lacey, 56, of Fairfield was charged with third-degree larceny and illegal use of a credit card.

Police received a complaint from Ring's End in January that an employee had fraudulently used a company credit card.

After an internal audit, management determined that Lacey, who had been assigned a company vehicle and a gas card, was using the card to fuel his personal vehicles, police said. The audit included comparing the fleet service logs for the company's vehicles and the actual gallons and costs posted to the gas card statements, police said.

Police said that Lacey charged $4,000 to the cards for personal fuel at several gas stations around the state, and that numerous transactions were made at one particular gas station close to his home. Surveillance footage captured him fueling up his two personal vehicles on several occasions, and police said he later admitted to using the card about 100 times over the past year.

Lacey was fired from Ring's End Lumber, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He turned himself in to Darien police on March 20.
