Easton Police: Homeless Man Broke Into Ex-Wife's Home, Assaulted Her

EASTON, Conn. -- A homeless man was charged with breaking into his ex-wife's Easton home and assaulting her last week, according to police.

Police received a 911 call at around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8 from a Deepwood Road resident, reporting that her ex-husband had broken into her home and assaulted her, police said. She said that a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation.

The ex-husband, identified as 57-year-old Paul Mahoney, left the residence on his motorcycle and was quickly stopped by officers, police said. Mahoney is homeless, police said.

While speaking with Mahoney, officers learned there was a standing criminal protective order in place against Mahoney, with the person who had called 911 listed as the protected person, according to police. There were also two active warrants for violation of probation, police said. He was placed under arrest and taken to the Easton Police Department for booking.

Mahoney was charged with disorderly conduct and violation of a standing criminal protective order. He was given a $500 bond. In addition he was held on two $50,000 for the two counts of violation of probation. Mahoney was unable to post bond and was taken to court on Monday for arraignment.
