Fairfield Man Pleads Not Guilty To Sex Assault Charges

WESTPORT, Conn. – Fairfield resident Jeffrey Schare, a former boys’ swim coach and math teacher at Staples High School accused of sexually assaulting two Fairfield girls, pleaded not guilty to sexual assault charges Tuesday, according to court records.

Schare, 43, is accused of having inappropriate contact with two juvenile girls during a three-year period, according to police. He turned himself in to Fairfield police in December and was charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and risk of injury to a child, all felonies.

Schare, who is no longer employed at Staples, is out on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court again Feb. 7.
