“Today Fairfield Fire began a new home safety program,” said Fire Chief Denis McCarthy. “We recognize the anxiety a home fire in a neighbor’s home has on the entire family and want to translate that concern into action.

Personnel from the Fairfield Fire Marshal’s Office and Fire Company One returned to the scene of Monday night's house fire on South Benson Road.

The goal was not only to further investigate the fire but also to educate the neighborhood on home safety in the aftermath of the blaze.

Knocking on doors in the neighborhood, Fairfield firefighters spoke with residents and left literature explaining how to respond in the event of a house fire. It included department contact information on how to acquire additional literature and how to schedule smoke alarm safety inspections.

"The day after a fire, Fairfield firefighters will canvas the immediate neighborhood, speaking with residents whenever possible and leaving literature to review," McCarthy said. "Firefighters will stress the importance of smoke detectors and home safety planning.

All Fairfield residents are encouraged to call or email the department with any questions or concerns they may have concerning home fire safety at 203-254-4720 or FireSafetyInfo@FairfieldCT.org.

According to the Fire Marshal’s Office, the cause of the fire at 203 South Benson Road remains undetermined pending further investigation.
