The town Building Department was on the scene assessing the damage to the garage and home at 3022 Burr St.

The garage did not collapse in the incident as feared, but the Mercedes slammed into the pillar separating two of the doors on the three-car garage beside the house, Fairfield Assistant Fire Chief Schuyler Sherwood said.

The pillar appeared warped and a bit splintered.

Fairfield police were investigating the accident. The Fire Department responded to the call at 4:13 p.m.

The homeowner's name was not released.
