Fairfield Man Charged With Making Bomb Threat

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Fairfield man was charged with calling in a bomb threat Thursday morning to the Bridgeport Superior Courthouse, according to Connecticut State Police.

The call came into the Golden Hill Street courthouse at 9:55 a.m. Thursday. The building immediately was evacuated, but state police found nothing suspicious inside, according to police reports.

Investigators traced the call to Robert M. Smith, 20, of Kenwood Avenue in Fairfield, police say. He was contacted by State Police and admitted to making the call, according to state police reports.

Smith was due to appear in court that morning to face burglary and larceny charges relating to a 2011 arrest, according to state court records. Smith also was charged earlier this month by Fairfield police in connection with another theft case, according to Fairfield police.

Connecticut State Police charged Smith with a falsely reporting an incident, misuse of the 911 system, a breach of the peace and second-degree threatening, all misdemeanors. He was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
