Fairfield Man Charged With Punching Girlfriend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Fairfield man was charged with attacking his live-in girlfriend Friday night.

The victim told police Claudio Zuniga, 30, of Grace Street punched her on the top of her head and slapped her in the face during an argument, according to a police report. Zuniga also allegedly grabbed a phone out of her hand and smashed it to prevent her from calling 911, police said.

Zuniga was not at the scene when police arrived, but when he returned he was bleeding from a cut on his hand, police said. He declined medical treatment and was taken into police custody.

The suspect was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, interfering with emergency calls and third-degree assault, all misdemeanors. He was released on a $1,000 bond and was due to appear in court Monday.
