According to police, the charges stemmed from an initial call on April 13, when a woman called police to report that 61-year-old Barry Hammons of Fairfield, had been seen parked in her neighborhood from 11 a.m-1 p.m. that day. She told police she was concerned because her 15-year-old son was home alone.
When officers arrived, they found Hammons in his car reading a book a short distance from the house. He was warned not to return to the area. While following up on the incident, it was found that this was not the first time Hammons had been warned. Officers applied for and received an arrest warrant the next day.
On Sunday, officers were called again to the house on reports that Hammons had been "lying in wait at her home" before walking onto the property, police said.
He was taken into custody near his car. The victim told police that Hammons had called her 10 times Sunday, but she had not answered any of the calls.
At that time, Hammons was charged with first-degree criminal trespassing, second-degree harassment and second-degree stalking and released on a $25,000 bond with a court date of Monday, April 28.
On Monday, police were able to charge Hammons with the earlier arrest warrant for the April 13 incident. He was charged with second-degree harassment and second-degree stalking and released on a promise to appear in court on April 29 with a GPS tracking anklet.
