Robert Purcell was interviewed by Wallingford Police after the victim's parents complained about incidents that took place at the funeral of the victim's grandmother and again at a private residence, NBC Connecticut said.

Purcell turned himself in to Stratford police after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of second-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault, indecent exposure and risk of injury to a minor in connection with the funeral for the boy's grandmother, NBC Connecticut reported.

Purcell was arrested on Jan. 10 by Fairfield police on charges of assaulting a young boy more than 12 times in a four-year period. In that arrest, he was charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor as part of that same investigation that began in October in Wallingford.

According to the police report, the parents told police that the assailant lived in Fairfield and had possibly assaulted the boy in Stratford.

On Nov. 26, Fairfield police took Purcell into custody and turned him over to Wallingford Police on their warrant.

Fairfield Detective Beth Irizarry began an investigation in town and found evidence supporting that an incident had also taken place in Fairfield at  Purcell's home on Warde Terrace in February 2011, police said. It was described as the most serious of all the events, police said.
