Brett Saltus, 53, of Karen Street, was taken to headquarters on Wednesday, Nov. 12, after attempting to evade arrest by telling police that he was his brother, Kenneth, according to police.

Police originally stopped Saltus when a check on his license plate showed the vehicle’s registration had been expired for more than a year, police said. Saltus told the officer who made the stop that his name was Kenneth but that he had no identification in his possession, police said.

During the motor vehicle stop, Saltus gave inconsistent information when asked his age - he first said 53, then changed it to 55 - and then gave two different addresses, according to police reports.

Police allowed Saltus to leave the scene, at which point a check on his identification showed previous police contact. Officers determined that there were three warrants for his arrest for failure to appear in court in three different towns -- Fairfield, Bridgeport and Westport, police said.

Saltus was charged with criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer and the three counts of first-degree failure to appear in court. He was released on a total of $110,000 in bonds and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 25.
