Fairfield Police Arrest Bridgeport Man On Drug, Weapons Charges

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield police arrested a Bridgeport man on multiple charges Thursday after a traffic stop turned up cocaine packaged for sale and a club, police said.

Officers stopped a car driven by Christian H. Avellino on Grasmere Avenue in Fairfield because it appeared to be unregistered, according to police. Pumpkin Patch preschool is located nearby. 

Avellino was found to be in possession of cocaine packaged ready for sale, THC oil and a blackjacklike club, police said. There was also an outstanding arrest warrant for Avellino on a charge of disorderly conduct from Bridgeport police, according to police. 

Avellino, of Yacht Street, was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school and possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

He was also charged with infractions of possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and operating an unregistered vehicle, police said.

Avellino was held on $30,000 bond and was due in court Friday.
