Robert Garfield Sr., 63, was arrested Tuesday on the same warrant that had been used to arrest his son in April on possession of marijuana charges.
The warrant was executed April 25, and officers found a scale, pipes, bags used for the sale of marijuana, a white powder that field tested positive for cocaine, marijuana, and items commonly used to cut cocaine when they searched the home, police said.
In the garage they found six "peace poles" from Stratfield Elementary School that commemorate retired teachers. Each one is at $300 to $400, and they had gone missing between June 2009 and January 2011.
At that time, police stopped 22-year-old Robert Garfield Jr. and charged him with six counts of sixth-degree larceny, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana within 1,500 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia. His case is still in the courts.
Later, after it was determined that the white powder was cocaine, an arrest warrant was issued for Robert Garfield Sr., police said. The father had said the cocaine was his during the original search of his home, police said.
Garfield Sr. turned himself in to police Tuesday and was charged with possession of a narcotic. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on July 24.
