FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Officers were called to the Horseshoe Cafe after the manager and patrons stopped a man from leaving the bar after he took the purse of another patron early Tuesday, Fairfield police said.

A woman noticed that her purse was missing shortly after 12:30 a.m., according to the police report. Several patrons told the bar manager that a man who had been seated next to her purse had left to go to the bathroom, the police report said.

The bar manager went to the bathroom and was able to see through the door that the man was riffling through the purse and immediately called police, the report said.

The man then left the bathroom and returned to his seat, had a brief conversation with the man he had been sitting with, the report said. He then put the purse down on a chair and left the bar, police said.

The manager followed the man outside and confronted him, police said. The man then threw papers and credit cards on the ground and was taken back into the bar, police said.

Officers arrived and arrested Roderick Hannon, 43, of Bridgeport, with sixth-degree larceny and two counts of credit card theft. He was taken to police headquarters and released on $500 cash bond with a court date of July 14.

While at the bar, Hannon's friend, Joel Young of Bridgeport, told officers that he had no idea what Hannon had planned and apologized for his behavior, police said. However, when officers ran the 35-year-old's name through their database, they found two arrest warrants for Young for second-degree failure to appear from Bridgeport.

Young was issued a total bond of $1,000 and released with a court date of July 14
