Police said Thomas O’Rourke, 24, of Wood Avenue, took laundry detergent valued at about $54 from the shelves and tried to return it just before 5 a.m. When employees refused to take the detergent, O’Rourke took two EPT pregnancy tests from a shelf and left the Kings Highway East store with one, police said.

An officer called to the scene spotted O’Rourke walking west along the road and saw him throw the pregnancy test under a car, police said.

He was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on a promise to appear in court on Nov. 7, police said.
