Daniel Aquino-Ramirez, 21, of Woodside Avenue, was driving the victim to her home in Fairfield at around 5 a.m. Nov. 7, when he stopped the car, put his hands on her neck and throat and pushed her away, police said.

He then got out of the car and smashed her cellphone on the ground, police said. The victim was able to grab her belongings and run to her home before anything else could happen, police said.

The victim said their relationship had recently turned violent, and the altercation had begun when Aquino-Ramirez grew angry, saying the victim had been spending too much time on her phone texting a friend, according to police.

The victim had red marks on her neck and pieces of her iPhone with her when she arrived at Fairfield Police Department at 6:50 a.m. to report the incident, police said.

Fairfield police called the Bridgeport Police Department in an attempt to locate Aquino-Ramirez.

Bridgeport police made the arrest at the suspect's home and transferred him to Fairfield Police Department, where he was held on $5,000 bond as of Friday morning.

Aquino-Ramirez has been charged with second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree breach of peace and third-degree assault, police said. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Nov. 10.
