Officers were on their way to a breach-of-peace call on Rakoczy Avenue on Saturday night, July 12, when they stopped a car driven by someone involved in the altercation, police said.
The driver, identified as Nicholas Verity, 26, of Stratford, had a cut lip and told officers that he had been "sucker punched" by a man at a home on Rakoczy Avenue, police said.
When officers arrived with Verity, they were told that Verity and his girlfriend, Jamie Roberts, 19, of Fairfield, had been told earlier by Roberts' family that they needed to move out, police said. Verity was asked to wait outside as Roberts discussed moving out, police said.
During the discussion, Roberts got involved in a physical fight with her uncle and attempted to stop him from using a phone to call 911, police said. When Verity saw the fight through the window, he kicked open the door and began to punch the uncle as well before fleeing the home, police said.
Police charged Roberts with disorderly conduct, interfering with an emergency call and third-degree assault. She was held on a $5,000 bond with a court date of Monday, July 14.
Verity was initially charged with driving with a suspended license and released with a promise to appear in court on Monday, July 28. Later he was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and third-degree assault. He was held on those charged with $5,000 bond and a court date of Monday, July 14.
Police also determined that there were two failure-to-appear arrest warrants for Verity out of Fairfield and Naugatuck, and he was held on a combined bond of $600 with court dates of Tuesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 31.
