FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Waterbury man was arrested on drunken driving and hit-and-run charges when he veered off Bronson Road and struck a mailbox Sunday evening, Fairfield police said.
Francisco Garcia-Rivera, 23, of Hamden Avenue, kept driving after hitting the mailbox with his Ford Mustang, police said.
Called to the scene at 7:30 p.m., police located Garcia-Rivera in the car, which was missing the rearview mirror, on Congress Street near Hillside Road, police said.
He failed field sobriety tests and his breathalyzer test result was .24, three times the legal limit, police said.
He was charged with evading responsibility, operation while under the influence and failure to drive right, police said.
Garcia-Rivera was released on $50 bond and is due to appear in court on May 23, police said.
