Fairfield Police Connect Two Men To At Least 20 Car Burglaries

FAIRFIELD, CONN. -- Two men are facing burglary charges after Fairfield police said they caught up with them Tuesday morning and connected them to at least 20 car burglaries along Penfield Road in Fairfield.

Tymel Luke Thompson, 22, was charged with third-degree burlgary, third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary, fourth-degree larceny, fourth-degree conspiracy and possession of burglary tools, police said.

Carlos Juan Ortiz, 26, was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary, fourth-degree larceny, fourth-degree conspiracy and possession of burglary tools, police said.

Both men are being held on $25,000 bond after being arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court, police said.

Police said they got a call at about 5:40 a.m. from a resident who saw two men entering his car that was parked in the driveway, police said. Officers caught up with the men, who were carrying bags, police said.

One of the men fled on foot but police caught up with him at the nearby YMCA on Old Post Road, police said.

An investigation connected the men to at least 20 car burglaries around Penfield Road in Fairfield. Police recovered stolen items valued at $2,500, including $226 in cash and $172 in loose change, police said.
