FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield Police Department is seeking funding for its K9 unit via GoFundMe.

The K9 Unit is funded entirely through private and corporate donations.

K9s assist in fighting and deterring crime, and their presence alone often allows for a peaceful arrest and helps keep police out of harm's way.

Police canines also assist in crowd control and tracking suspects and evidence, as well as lost individuals.

Donations can also be made in person or by mail.

To donate by mail, make a check payable to Fairfield Police Department - K9 Unit and send it to: Fairfield Police Department Attention: Sgt. Hector Irizarry K9 Unit Supervisor 100 Reef Road Fairfield, CT 06824.
