FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A mother and her son went to the Fairfield police station on Wednesday, April 23, to report that he had been severely assaulted at Sacred Heart University in October and that they wanted to press charges against those responsible, police said.

The police report states that the son had told his mother about the attack only two weeks ago after she noticed a change in his attitude, including bouts of anger, headaches and memory loss.

He told police that on Oct. 31, 2013, he went to Club Exhibit in West Haven on a chartered bus with other students from the university. On the bus, he got into an argument with a member of the soccer team about approaching his then-girlfriend, police said. The argument continued through the evening, culminating with four members of the soccer team attacking him outside his dorm building on campus, police said.

According to the police report, a resident assistant witnessed the assault and told the victim that he had been kicked severely several times in the head. The victim told police that he was unsure whether a report had been made.

During initial stages of the police investigation, officers determined that the victim had been taken to campus security. A report had been filed by a security officer, and the victim had refused additional medical attention, police said.

Video surveillance was in the area of the attack, police said, but security told them that it was highly possible that the recording of the attack had been erased by now.

Police say they are pursuing the investigation and anticipate making arrests.
