FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield officers responded early Saturday to a reported brawl at The Local Bar, but no arrests were made because they could not identify the attackers, police said.
Officers arrived at the Local Bar on Mill Plain Road shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday on a report of a fight taking place inside the restaurant, police said.
When officers arrived, an off-duty Fairfield firefighter yelled and asked officers to stop a black Mercedes that was leaving because the men in the car were involved in the fight, police said. Officers stopped the car and noticed that one man had a large amount of blood on him, but both men said they were not involved, police said.
Officers identified another victim, who told police that he had gone to speak earlier in the evening with a woman but was warned off by a nearby man. The victim said he backed off and returned to his friends, police said.
But when he was leaving, the same man came up behind him, grabbed his neck and began punching him in the face, he told police said. Several other men began to also attack him, the police report said.
The victim's friend attempted to stop the fight twice but found himself also being attacked by the group of men, police said.
Both men had cuts on their faces but refused medical care at the scene, police said.
The girlfriend of the second victim told police that she had been attacked by a group of women who were with the male attackers, police said. She said the women had pulled her hair and grabbed at her, police said.
Neither victim was able to positively identify the two men from the Mercedes as the attackers, police said.
The bar manager told police that the bar has a surveillance camera that captured the fight, but he was unable to retrieve it at that time.
Police were investigating the cause of the fight and trying to determine who was involved. Both victims told officers they would like to press charges against the attackers, but the bar manager said the restaurant would not.
