Fairfield Police Investigate Theft Of Car Parts At Ludlowe High

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The drivers of two Jeep Cherokees said their vehicles' catalytic converters had been stolen at Fairfield Ludlowe High School after school ended Wednesday, police said.

The two drivers went to their cars after classes ended and found that the tailpipes on the vehicles had been cut and were hanging down on the pavement, police said.

The catalytic converters had been cut out of the exhaust systems, police said. The car part converts toxic pollutants to less dangerous emissions as part of the exhaust system.

Catalytic converters can be sold at scrap yards for $500 to $800, depending on the make and model of the car, Fairfield police said.

The department is investigating the thefts.
