FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Residents of three homes on Tollhouse Lane reported signs of break-in attempts that occurred between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, Fairfield police said.
One resident, who returned home at about 3 p.m., found that an X-Box and cable box were missing, police said. The master bedroom had been gone through and two iPads, valued at $500 and $200, were also missing, police said.
No visible signs of entry were found, but police said the suspects probably entered through an unlocked front door.
A resident of a second house noticed footprints in the snow that were not his, police said. He followed the footprints to a cellar window, which was smashed but too small to enter, police said. The resident told police that the footprints then went to his back door, but the suspects were likely discouraged from trying to enter by his large dog in the doorway.
At the third house, residents reported that a rear windowpane had been removed and footprints were found leading to the locked Bilco gate, stopping the suspects from gaining entry, police said.
Police were investigating the incidents. Any witnesses or people with information are asked to contact Fairfield detectives at 203-254-4800.
