FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A U-Haul worker was robbed and nearly pistol-whipped in the face when he tried to make a New Year’s Eve deposit at the drive-through ATM at the Bank of America on Kings Highway Cutoff in Fairfield, police said.

The victim told police a tall man wearing all black and a black ski mask and holding a pistol approached him from behind near the ATM just before 8 p.m. During a brief struggle, he lost grip of his deposit bag containing about $778 and the suspect ran off with it, police said.

Police deployed a K-9 at the scene but did not find a suspect. The victim was not injured, police said.

It was unclear whether the incident was caught on surveillance video.

Fairfield police detectives are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call Fairfield Police Department at 203-254-4840 or text-a-tip to CRIMES (274637).
