The suspect eluded officers, who used a police canine in an attempt to track down the man, police said. The suspect was described as a black man in his 40s was wearing a white shirt and jeans, police said.

Police believe the man fled on Route 1/North Avenue into Bridgeport.

The suspect selected merchandise from the men’s section of the store without regards to size, police said. He then stuffed the clothes into a duffel bag, which officers were able to recover, police said.

Officers also recovered two Tracfones — prepaid cell phones — that were valued at $39.99 each. The man is suspected of taking them from the Walgreens on King’s Highway East, police said.

Police said Walgreens employees did not know the phones had been taken from the store.
