Jagger and Maverick just completed training and they are out and about with their officers, police said. The department's K-9 unit relies completely on private donations and corporate sponsorship.

Police said just having the dogs with the officers provides a level of safety for police when they are out fighting crime. The dogs also assist in searches for missing children, track suspects, sniff out drugs among other duties, police said.

Fairfield police said their dogs also assist in other towns when the need arises. Dogs are particularly helpful in crowd control, police said.

To make a donation, visit the GoFundMe page. Also, checks can be sent or brought to the Fairfield Police Department, 100 Reef Road, Fairfield, 06824.

All donations are tax deductible. For more details, call (203) 254-4844.
