Donald Liss, 56, of St. Johnland Road, Kings Park, N.Y., was charged with possession of a controlled substance or more than a half-ounce of cannabis, police said.
Liss was driving on the Post Road near Thorpe Street around 11 p.m., when he called 911 to report he shouldn’t be driving because he thought he had been drugged or may have accidentally drugged himself, police said.
The dispatcher instructed him to pull over and put on his hazard lights, police said.
When officers arrived, Liss told them he had taken half a Percoset and that he had three ounces of pot in the truck for his wife, police said.
Officers called in K-9 Maverick, who alerted to the odor of drugs in a plastic garbage can on the front passenger seat, police said. Officers found four clear baggies containing 122 grams, or 4.3 ounces, of a substance that tested positive for marijuana.
Liss exhibited “mood swings” during the incident, complying with officers and then threatening to punch them, police said.
He said he believed a stranger put something in his water bottle at a truck stop, but police found no water bottle in the Dodge Ram.
He asked officers if they would give him a ride to the Port Jefferson Ferry terminal in Bridgeport, but the last ferry of the night had already departed.
Liss was released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 25.
