FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A check on a suspicious car in Fairfield led to the arrest of a 25-year-old Bridgeport man on drug, motor vehicle and weapon charges, police said.
Officers on patrol Friday spotted a car with registration that did not match the car pull into a driveway on Park Avenue in Fairfield, police said. When asked what he was doing, the driver, Joel Valcin, said he was visiting a friend who lived at the Park Avenue address, police said. But a check of the house revealed that no one of that name lived there, police said.
When asked for a driver's license, Valcin told officers that the Bridgeport police had not returned it to him after he was arrested there recently, police said. He said he did not have registration for the car because he had just bought the car that morning and hadn’t changed the registration yet, police said.
When asked, he told officers he had nothing dangerous in the car and consented to a pat down and search of the car, police said. Officers found nothing on his person but found a knife, longer than 4 inches, in reach of the driver underneath the passenger seat, police said.
A bottle with the label ripped off was found with several pills of 500 mg Naproxen, which he told officers was prescribed to him for back pain, police said. Several small circular orange pills were also found in the bottle, police said.
In the trunk, officers found 19 pieces of mail that were not addressed to him, the majority of them were credit card applications and cards, with addresses near his in Bridgeport, police said.
Valcin was taken to police headquarters and his car was towed, police said.
He was charged with failure to keep prescription medication in a proper container; weapons in a motor vehicle; misuse of a registration plate; driving without registration; driving without insurance; improper plate attachment; having no front plate; failure to comply with emissions; and driving without a license.
He was released on $2,500 bond and given a court date of March 10.
