FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield police have a message for drivers on Mill Plain Road next week: Slow down.

The Fairfield Police Traffic Safety Unit will conduct a “Living Streets campaign on Mill Plain Road from Nov. 26-30. During that week, officers will hand out fliers to passing drivers with reminders of the posted speed limit and more information on the program. Officers will then increase enforcement on the street in the weeks after the campaign.

The Living Streets program is designed to remind drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists that they all must share the road. Mill Plain Road was chosen as the location of Fairfield’s first bike lanes, which will be added early next year.

“The Living Streets program raises awareness and consciousness in motorists, which ultimately slows their speeds down after the program is completed,” the Fairfield police said in a press release.
