FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Two Stamford women were charged with robbery Friday after fighting with security guards during a shoplifting attempt at the Home Depot store in Fairfield, according to police reports.
The two women were accused of placing more than $1,400 worth of power tools and batteries in a shopping cart at the Kings Highway store on Friday afternoon and trying to walk out without paying, police say. When confronted by two store security guards, the suspects tried to run.
A guard grabbed one of the women and both fell to the ground, according to the police report. The other woman then tried to pull the guard off the other suspect, and kicked the other guard when he tried to intervene, police say. A Fairfield Police officer then arrived and arrested the two women, according to the report.
Gretchen Durette, 40, and Tori Fitts, 45, both of Stamford, were charged with third-degree robbery, a felony; fourth-degree larceny and conspiracy, both misdemeanors. They were released on a promise to appear in court for a hearing on Dec. 19.
