Since last Friday, those seven residents reported that their cars had been riffled through and items taken, police said.
The thefts have occurred in the areas around Field Crest Drive, Bloomfield Drive, Brentwood Avenue and Stillson Road, police said. The items stolen from the cars include computers, phones, tablets, purses, credit cards, debit cards and cash, police said.
In one instance, a thief gained access to two cars that were left unlocked in the driveway and took a $500 purse, a $120 wallet, credit cards, Social Security cards, an iPad and cash, police said.
“We are asking all residents to lock all cars even when in the driveway,” Deputy Police Chief Chris Lyddy said.
By leaving valuable items in the car, residents create temptations for thieves, and that leaving the car unlocked creates a higher opportunity for the thieves to gain access to the items, he said.
“Above all report any suspicious activity to the police,” Lyddy said. “Neighbors need to watch out for neighbors.”
