Around 5:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a northbound vehicle.

The investigation showed the victim, a 56-year-old Fairfield man, was jogging south in the northbound lane when he was struck and sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries, police said.

While at the scene, officers had reason to believe the driver, Nina Engstrom, 61, of Fairfield, was operating impaired, police said. She was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and failure to grant right-of-way to a pedestrian, police said.

The victim was transferred to Bridgeport Hospital.

Engstrom is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 30.

The case is under investigation.
