When asked, Nicholas Firella, 18, of Fairfield, told officers he was just walking around. But when the officers asked whether he had any drugs on him, he took a defensive stance and attempted to leave, police said.

Firella fought as officers sought to detain him, the police report says. While fighting with the officers, Firella attempted to get rid of a cigarette package, which was later found to contain a glass pipe with a "green leafy substance" that field tested positive for marijuana, police said.

Firella was charged with interfering with an officer and released on a promise to appear in court Dec. 23. He was also issued an infraction ticket on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
