Crowder was a senior at Fairfield Ludlowe High School.

His body was pulled from about 15 feet of water at about 7 p.m. by divers and transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. Resuscitative efforts continued until 8:10 p.m., when he was pronounced dead, police said.

Witnesses said several juveniles were swimming in the pond, and Crowder jumped into the water from a paddleboard, police said. Swimming is not permitted at the pond, and signs are posted.

When his friends saw he was in distress, they made unsuccessful attempts to help him, police said.

The investigation is still active, pending a determination of the cause and manner of death from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

A GoFundMe page has been created to support Crowder’s family by Fairfield Woods Middle School teacher Molly McHugh, who knows Crowder’s three siblings who attended that school.

“I have worked closely with the family in the past as they have had many hardships fall upon them,” the teacher wrote. “They are a fairly new family to the community and they do not have the support needed to get through such a tragedy.”

The page had raised $5,800 of a $10,000 goal by 9:45 p.m. Monday.

The Fairfield Fire Department responded to a report of a possible drowning at the pond at 757 Sturges Road shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday.

Fire and police crews performed multiple free dives in an attempt to locate the victim, fire officials said.

He was found submerged in about 15 feet of water and brought to the surface around 7 p.m.

This was the third drowning in Fairfield this year. In August, two men from New York drowned in Long Island Sound off Penfield Reef when the tide came in while they were fishing.
