Officers were flagged down to the parking lot at 238 Post Road around 3:30 a.m., when a witness saw two men in a car punching each other, police said.

The father and son said they had been drinking at a nearby restaurant and were waiting for a ride, when they began pushing and shoving each other, police said. The father, Juan M. Figueroa, 54, of Wayland Avenue, Waterbury, began kicking the son and broke a chain around his neck and the fight escalated, police said.

Figueroa and his son, Juan M. Figueroa, 33, of Ash Street, Bridgeport, were each charged with third-degree assault, police said. They were scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 29.

Figueroa complained of difficulty breathing and was transported to Bridgeport Hospital, police said.
