William Tortora, 57, of Shelton, became the focus of an investigation into a fire in the parking lot of the Echo Hose Fire Company in February, said Shelton Det. Richard Bango.

In the course of the fire investigation, detectives seized Tortora’s cell phone on which detectives uncovered photographs and video of child pornography, Bango said.

Tortora was arrested in connection with the fire incident after an investigation found he and another man set cardboard boxes on fire in the back of a pick-up truck which was parked abutting the firehouse, police said.

Currently, Tortora is in jail charged with arson, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and conspiracy charges in connection with the fire, Bango said.

He was arraigned Wednesday on the pornography charges and is being held on additional $75,000 bond.
