Fairfield Provides Aid At Massive Blaze At Bridgeport Factory

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Firefighters were battling a massive blaze Thursday night at a factory on Seaview Avenue in Bridgeport, forcing evacuations in the area, according to NBC Connecticut

Thick, black smoke was rising from the factory at 2059-2149 Seaview Ave., which houses two businesses, and explosions were reported, Bridgeport Public Safety spokesman Bill Kaempffer told NBC Connecticut.

Area residents were evacuated to St. Ambrose Church after the fire broke out at 6:45 p.m., Red Cross spokesman Paul Shipman told NBC Connecticut.

Firefighters from Fairfield and Stratford were providing mutual aid. Kaempffer said the fire was first reported at 6:45 p.m. and two buildings are up in flames.
