Kenneth Mathews, 29 of Ellsworth St., Bridgeport, has been charged with first-degree larceny and first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny in connection with a theft that occurred between Aug. 11 and 22, while he was watching the home on Cobblers Hill Road, police said.

When confronted, Mathews confessed that people he had let into the home in August had taken 86 items from the homeowner's closets and the daughter’s closets, police said. He said he would retrieve the items and return them, police said.

At a later date, Mathews returned two bags containing 41 of the stolen items, mainly women’s clothing, police said.

According to police, another suspect in the incident is being sought for arrest by warrant.

Mathews was released on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 21.
