Man Charged With Assault At Fairfield Gas Station

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Bridgeport man was charged with assaulting another man Sunday night outside a Fairfield gas station.

The victim told police that Carlos Guzman, 20, threw rocks at his car while he visited the Mobil station on Stratfield Road Sunday, according to the police report. When he went to confront him about the incident, Guzman allegedly punched the man in the face, police say.

Guzman told officers at the scene that he did not know why the man was walking toward him. He said he struck the man because he was afraid the victim would hit him first, according to the police report.

Guzman was charged with third-degree assault and a breach of the peace, both misdemeanors. He was released on a promise to appear in court on Aug. 8.
