Richard deCarvalho, 33, who turned himself in to police Wednesday, Jan. 13, faces charges of criminally negligent homicide, third-degree assault, and breach of peace, the Post reported.

The body of Wayne Bentley, a 42-year-old West Haven man, was found in Ash Creek behind Chubby’s Bar & Grill on Fairfield Avenue in the early hours of Aug.1, 2015, after an apparent fight, police said.

His death was subsequently ruled a homicide by the state’s chief medical examiner. An autopsy determined that the cause of death was drowning with blunt force trauma to Bentley’s head and neck.

Witnesses told police then that Bentley had gotten into a fight with another man behind the bar and that they both fell in the water behind the bar.

The other man left the scene and Bentley’s body was pulled out of the creek shortly afterward, police said.
